Unscheduled (Mental) Vacations

June 10, 2010

Ahhh, wouldn't that be a great place to (Mentally) vacation?

Dearest FitMommas & FitDads,

I apparently went on an unscheduled Mental vacation this past week.  I say unscheduled because I obviously was unaware of how much I needed this break.  But a week without much more than five or ten minutes a day on my phone or computer was refreshing…rejuvenating…invigorating, even.

And I am back, though feeling a wee-bit out of touch, as I spent the past week reading books as opposed to writing, working around the house rather than working out, and feeding on well-worn favorites rather than experimenting with new things.

While a mental vacation can take many forms, I can’t recommend them enough.  Today I woke up feeling a little more renewed with purpose, a little clearer on my goals, and definitely better able to handle the stress of being a stay-home mom of three very different kiddos.  My only wish is that, in the future, I’ll be able to tell when I need one before I check out for a week, rather than just checking out without realizing I’ve gone anywhere!

So back to work on bringing stimulating conversation to the table for me, and if you feel the stress of daily life piling up, by all means…Check Out!  It may be the best vacation you can give yourself.

Always in your debt,
FitMomma Amy

Something that occurred to me, while I was in self-imposed internet detox for two days, was that I sit down with the laptop to take a break from the day. Work and mommy stuff and household crap wear me out, and the laptop time seems all about me – for a change. I’ve decided that I want to find something that doesn’t suck away my energy for me time instead. Not sure what exactly – but I am open to inspiration…as always. Ha!

I was hoping and praying you had a great vacation!
