School Lunch Revolution?

January 13, 2011

You say you wanna revolution...

Considering that my husband and I just found out this week that my daughter’s middle school doesn’t even offer a salad bar, I have to admit that this headline hit home just a bit.  Today, the USDA will announce new school lunch guidelines.  While it certainly isn’t going to reverse the obesity epidemic in our country, I guess a revolution has to start somewhere.

But even more important that changing the food offered in schools is us.  You, me, whether or not you have kids – kids are watching you, how you eat, what you stuff in your face, whether or not your hand is always in a bag of chips and around a Big Gulp.  It’s a total coincidence that my Reason to Workout today was about kids watching what we do, but clearly it is the theme of the day.  Kids are watching us, learning how to live and act and treat people, so let’s give them a good example!  Start your own mini-revolution against drive thrus and coach potatoes today!  Have a great Thursday, friends!
