Tunes for Tuesday: “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals
Today’s song is dedicated to my kid sister, Jessica, whom I happen to think is pretty cool. I recently figured out how to set up my iPhone with personalized ringtones. I know, welcome to 2008, Amy. Anyway, so I’ve been going through my phone list and deciding what song should be for each person, and found out that my sister’s favorite song is “You Get What You Give” by the New Radicals.
A one-hit-wonder from back in ’98, Get What You Give has a great piano line that runs through the course of the song, giving it that backbeat you need to get your groove thing on. And, if it weren’t for the overtly political overtones of the song, I would think it was written specifically for working out! There’s actually a line about running a miracle mile, and of course we all know that in workouts, you do, in fact, get what you give. Maybe there’s a bit of motivation in there for ya!
Anyhoo, download this baby for a little 90s nostalgia and have fun deciphering all the lyrics from the last few lines. Without Googling them, people!
